CREATING A CHARACTER

How does one create a character for Project Twilight? This page focuses on how to build a character for this campaign. For those who are familiar with the World of Darkness system, character creation will be relatively simple. If you're not familiar, please contact the GM so she can walk you through the process or simply come to the game with your character's backstory in hand. The GM is also willing to create a pre-generated character upon request or create the stats for a character based on a concept sent to her.

Step One: Character Concept

Concept
First, come up with an idea of who your character was before they were recruited to work for the SAD. Are they a rookie agent right out of the Academy? Are they a senior agent who lost their reputation? Were they recruited for a special purpose or do they have a supernatural experience in their past? Your backstory can be as complex or as simple as you like; however, all supernatural experiences/backgrounds must be run past the GM. (Though she is pretty easy-going.)

Agency
All characters in the campaign will be SAD agents newly assigned to work together for the West Coast division. None of these characters should have been previously with SAD on the West Coast and ideally, will not themselves hail from the region. If the character has a past with another government agency, that's fine but they will have been severed from the agency unless you present a clever explanation.

Nature/Demeanor
Basically, Nature is the character's true self. Demeanor is how they present themselves to the world.

Physical Description
Think about what your character looks like. It often helps to bring a photograph to the first game or select a figure (actor, musician, etc) that the character resembles to help solidify your character in the fellow players' minds.

Step Two: Select Attributes

Prioritize your three categories: Physical, Social, Mental (6/4/3). Each attribute begins with one point. You may place 6 points in your number one category, 4 points in your number 2, and 3 points in your number 3.

Step Three: Select Abilities

Prioritize your three categories: Talents, Skills, Knowledges (11/7/4). You may place 11 points in your number one category, 7 points in your number 2, and 4 points in your number 3.

Suggested (though not required) abilities for a SAD agent are: Firearms, Investigation, and Occult.

Step Four: Select Advantages

Backgrounds
See page 17 of the Project Twilight book or consult the GM. (You may wish to bookmark the book as it will be useful to you throughout this process.)

Step Five: Finishing Touches

Willpower
All characters begin with Willpower 3.

Spend Freebie Points
All characters begin with 21 Freebie Points. You may purchase Attributes, Abilities, Advantages, Numina, Merits, and Flaws with Freebie Points. See the numbers at the bottom of the character sheet or the Project Twilight book for details.

Numina and/or Supernatural Background
Consult the Project Twilight book or other World of Darkness supplements. These abilities are not required. If you'd like to have a storyline focusing around how your character might be pulled into developing abilities or entering the supernatural world themselves, the GM is ALWAYS interested in hearing it. All such abilities will be approved/rejected at GM discretion. (Most things can be worked with but if you decide to play God, Santa Claus or a were-dragon...)

Merits & Flaws
Advantages and disadvantages. These are totally optional. There is a great page at Deathquaker.org compiling all of the available ones here: http://www.deathquaker.org/gaming/meritsflaws.html.

Merits and Flaws specific to Project Twilight can be found on pages 20-22 of the Project Twilight book.
